I've always been drawn to the full skirts and practical simplicity of 19th-century American day dresses, as well as the lovely shirt dresses of the 1940s and 50s.

Lydia brings a little of both together. I wanted a dress that felt romantic and old-fashioned, but was comfortable enough to wear on an ordinary day.

The bodice has a relaxed, straight cut, with small tucks to give it a little shape at the waist. I've kept the details simple: a classic collar, dark wooden buttons, sleeves that can be rolled up and a wonderfully full midi skirt. And, naturally, I've added pockets.

Made from 100% cotton, Lydia is my interpretation of those historical silhouettes rather than a reproduction of any particular period.

I've chosen a straight-cut bodice with small tucks at the front and darts at the back to give the waist some gentle shaping without making it restrictive. The skirt is made from a series of flared panels, giving it plenty of fullness and movement without needing lots of gathering at the waist.

Each dress will be made to order in my Devon studio, with care taken over the fit, construction and finishing.
Lydia is designed to have a relaxed, straight-cut fit through the bodice, rather than sitting closely against the figure.

The waist is gently shaped with tucks and darts, while the full midi-length skirt allows plenty of room to move. The button-through front means you can wear the collar open or fastened, and the long sleeves have buttoned cuffs but can also be rolled up.

There are practical pockets hidden in the side seams.
